Total nonfarm payroll employment in Topeka fell by 800 jobs in May, 0.7 percent below the same month in 2017. The Topeka unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in April, the most recent month for which data are available, down from 3.7 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area fell to 4,259 in April, a decline of 5.0 percent from the prior year, while the labor force fell by 0.1 percent to 119,517.
