Total nonfarm payroll employment in Topeka rose by 2,200 jobs in June, 2.0 percent above the same month in 2018. The Topeka unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in May, the most recent month for which data are available, up from 3.4 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area rose to 4,333 in May, an increase of 5.0 percent over the prior year, while the labor force rose by 0.5 percent to 120,715.
