WICHITA PERMITS:   Based on the data collected by the Wichita Area Builders Association (WABA), Wichita single-family residential building permits held steady in June, at 102 units. On a year-over-year (Y/Y) basis, the number represents a 31.1% decrease over June of 2007. In addition, data collected by the WSU Center for Economic Development and Business Research showed the average value of new construction permits rose from $68,309 to $82,086, which is a 20.2% increase.

SURROUNDING MARKETS:   Based on the data collected by the Wichita Area Builders Association (WABA), for the 13 surrounding communities for which WABA has been collecting data for at least a year, results were mixed. Derby, Haysville, Maize, and Park City all saw increases in the Y/Y number of permits, while Andover, Augusta, El Dorado, Goddard, Kechi, Mulvane, Newton, and Valley Center all saw decreases. Bel Aire was unchanged.

WICHITA & SURROUNDING MARKETS YEAR-TO-DATE:   For the first half of the year, Wichita has had permits issued for 610 units, which is a 16.4% decrease from the 730 issued in the first half of 2007. For the 13 surrounding markets Augusta, Goddard, Haysville, and Park City have seen increases during the first half of the year, while Andover, Bel Aire, Derby, Kechi, Maize, Newton, and Valley Center have seen a decrease. For the year, El Dorado is unchanged.
