Total nonfarm payroll employment in Wichita fell by 18,100 jobs in June, 5.9 percent below the same month in 2019. The Wichita unemployment rate was 10.8 percent in June, up from 3.3 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area rose to 34,413 in June, an increase of 228.2 percent over the prior year, while the labor force rose by 0.6 percent to 317,537.
