Total nonfarm payroll employment in Topeka fell by 6,600 jobs in June, 5.8 percent below the same month in 2019. The Topeka unemployment rate was 7.3 percent in June, up from 3.2 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area rose to 8,537 in June, an increase of 122.4 percent over the prior year, while the labor force fell by 1.8 percent to 117,398.
