Total nonfarm payroll employment in Topeka rose by 4,300 jobs in June, 4.1 percent above the same month in 2020. The Topeka unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in May, the most recent month for which data are available, down from 9.0 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area fell to 4,067 in May, a decline of 62.2 percent from the prior year, while the labor force rose by 2.4 percent to 122,079.
