Total nonfarm payroll employment in Manhattan fell by 3,500 jobs in June, 8.9 percent below the same month in 2019. The Manhattan unemployment rate was 6.7 percent in June, up from 2.7 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area rose to 3,031 in June, an increase of 134.1 percent over the prior year, while the labor force fell by 4.8 percent to 45,173.
