Total nonfarm payroll employment in Kansas City fell by 115,700 jobs in April, 10.6 percent below the same month in 2019. The Kansas City unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in March, the most recent month for which data are available, unchanged from a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area rose to 38,088 in March, an increase of 3.5 percent over the prior year, while the labor force rose by 1.6 percent to 1,150,545.
