What is the difference between “Contracts Written” and “Pending Sales”?

An MLS listing is said to be pending from the time a contract for sale has been accepted until it closes. Our “Pending Sales” figure measures the number of contracts for sale that are still outstanding (pending) at the end of the month. The “Contracts Written” shows the number of contracts that were written and accepted during a month. These figures may differ from one another for at least two reasons. First, some contracts that were written in prior months may have not yet been closed. Second, some contracts written during the month may have already been closed.
