Quick Guides to Real Estate Licensure
Getting your license to work as a real estate agent, real estate broker, or real estate appraiser can be a complicated process.  So, to help guide you in the right direction, we've prepared some basic Quick Guides to help explain the process (accessed by clicking the blue "DOWNLOAD" boxes below).  To view the guides, you will need the free Adobe Acrobat reader software, which can be downloaded at:  www.adobe.com

For many people, the road to licensure is made easier by contacting a local firm that works in your area of interest.  Many firms have internships, or starting positions, that allow individuals to get their foot in the door and gain from the guidance of experienced professionals.  For a list of companies in your area of interest, click on one of the red section heading below.
This is the license that you are looking for if you are just getting started in real estate and want to be a real estate agent that helps people buy and sell houses:

A real estate salesperson is an individual who works for a real estate brokerage firms (click here to see some examples).  A real estate agent has to work for a licensed broker in order to carry out the purchase and sale of real estate for clients.

A real estate broker is an individual, who usually started off as a real estate agent, but has completed additional coursework and met additional requirement that allow them to become a broker.  This is probably what you are looking for if you have been working in the real estate industry as a real estate agent and want to become an independent agent/broker.

A real estate appraiser provides an opinion of the value of a property to individuals or business who pay for the appraisal.  In Kansas there are three classifications of real estate appraisal license:

State Licensed Real Property Appraiser
Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser
Certified General Real Property Appraiser
