Total nonfarm payroll employment in Wichita rose by 2,500 jobs in August, 0.8 percent above the same month in 2016. The Wichita unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in July, the most recent month for which data are available, down from 4.8 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area fell to 13,397 in July, a decline of 10.7 percent from the prior year, while the labor force rose by 0.4 percent to 311,276.
