Total nonfarm payroll employment in Wichita rose by 2,400 jobs in December, 0.8 percent above the same month in 2015. The Wichita unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in December, up from 4.4 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area rose to 14,709 in December, an increase of 6.3 percent over the prior year, while the labor force fell by 0.1 percent to 314,550.
