Total nonfarm payroll employment in Wichita fell by 2,100 jobs in January, 0.7 percent below the same month in 2016. The Wichita unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in January, unchanged from a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area fell to 13,983 in January, a decline of 1.2 percent from the prior year, while the labor force fell by 2.1 percent to 308,660.
