Total nonfarm payroll employment in Manhattan was 44,100 in April, essentially unchanged from the same month in 2018. The Manhattan unemployment rate was 3.1 percent in April, up from 2.8 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area rose to 1,472 in April, an increase of 9.9 percent over the prior year, while the labor force rose by 0.7 percent to 47,555.
