Total nonfarm payroll employment in Kansas City rose by 16,000 jobs in May, 1.5 percent above the same month in 2017. The Kansas City unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in April, the most recent month for which data are available, down from 3.8 percent a year earlier. The number of people unemployed across the metropolitan area fell to 40,680 in April, a decline of 5.7 percent from the prior year, while the labor force rose by 0.5 percent to 1,131,556.
